Saginaw Spirit News Release

USA Hockey has today released its National Junior Team Preliminary Roster in advance of the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship and Saginaw Spirit forward Brandon Saad is among the group of remaining hopefuls for the event. Saad joins six other players currently playing in the Ontario Hockey League on the roster, with Team USA inviting a total of eight players from the Bronze Medal winning 2011 edition to this year's camp. Team USA will convene in Alberta, Canada on December 16, 2011 with the pre-tournament camp taking place from the 17th to the 23rd. The final roster consisting of 22 players will be announced on December 22 following Team USA's final pre-tournament game.

So far this season, Saad has recorded 9 goals and has added 10 assists in 11 games played with Saginaw. The Gibsonia, Pennsylvania native was a Second Round Draft pick of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and enjoyed an outstanding camp which led to his signing of a three year entry level contract with the team. Saad's season was also interrupted by an upper body injury which he recently returned from. Saad joins Spirit teammate Jamie Oleksiak in trying to win a spot with his home country at the World Junior event with the First Round Pick of the Dallas Stars scheduled to participate in Team Canada's Final Selection Camp.

Team USA is coming off of back to back years of earning a medal at the event with a Bronze Medal secured last year and Gold in the 2010 tournament. The 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place from December 26 until January 5 in Calgary and Edmonton Alberta, Canada.
