
Spirit fall to Grays

The Grays overcame four errors from a shaky defense to defeat the Spirit 10-4 on Friday night at Fraser Field.
North Shore dropped to 9-7 on the season, cranking out 10 hits in the losing effort. Comolli (0-2) suffered the loss, while Lincoln Mincks improved to 2-1. Randy Rapp picked up his first save of the season, striking out the side in the ninth.
The Spirit jumped out to the early lead in this one with a solo home run in the first inning from Andy Howdeshell. Oglesby, Macchi and Fischer combined for three straight singles to put the Spirit ahead, 2-0.
The Grays answered with two runs of their own in the top of second inning. Mark Burke led off the inning with a double and scored on single from Willie King. Eddie Gerald followed with a solo shot, tying the game at two.
The Grays took their first lead of the game in the third inning, 3-2, behind singles from Larry Best and Burke.
Lincoln Mincks kept the North Shore bats silent until the sixth. The Spirit picked up two runs in the inning on a lone Brian Macchi single, thanks to the sloppy play from the defense. The Grays committed two errors in the inning, as North Shore regained the lead.
The Grays answered with four runs of their own in the top of the seventh taking the lead, 7-4. The Grays took advantage of three walks and RBI singles from Garcia and Burke. Brian Morse faced just two batters in the inning before giving way to Mark Comolli. Comolli struggled in his brief stint, giving up two earned runs.
The Grays added three more runs in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring. Greg Pleeter was responsible for all of the runs.
