GRAYS 10, NORTH SHORE 4 @ Lynn, Mass. Time: 3:05 ATT: 2,019 W: Lincoln Mincks (2-1) L: Mark Comolli (0-2) S: Randy Rapp (1) HR: GRY - Mark Burke (3), Ed Gerald (1) NSR - Andy Howdeshell (1) The Grays trailed 4-3 in the seventh, but rallied for four runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth to win, 10-4 over North Shore. SS Alex Garcia and RF Mark Burke plated two with RBI singles in the seventh, and CF Greg Strickland scored on a wild pitch. 3B Larry Best scored later in the inning on a passed ball. In the ninth, Burke hit a two-run homer to cap the three-run rally. Burke finished 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. Lincoln Mincks got his second win, allowing just two earned runs over seven innings, striking out five.
BROCKTON 6, NEW HAVEN 5 @ West Haven, Conn. Time: 2:58 ATT: 1,128 W: Jon Koch (1-0) L: Andy Weimer (1-1) S: Joey Cole (4) HR: None
Brockton trailed 5-3 heading into the ninth, but mounted a rally to come back and win, 6-5. 1B Craig Lewis led off the inning with a double, and moved to third on a single by C Brian Jones. The Cutters tried to double-up DH Kris Zacuto on a grounder, but only got the out at second and Lewis scored in the process. LF Guye Senjem singled, and his pinch runner, Brad Guy, later moved to second on a groundout. Zacuto was held at third. With two outs and runners in scoring position, 2B Hector Henriquez hit an infield single to third, and Jeff Brooks threw the ball in the dirt trying to make a play. Guy scored from second because of the error, and Brockton had a 6-5 lead. LF Derick Gibson doubled for New Haven in the bottom half, his third of the game, but Joey Cole struck out 1B Bill Peavey to end the game. Jones finished 3-for-4 for Brockton with two driven in. Jon Koch pitched four scoreless innings for Brockton to earn the win, and Cole wound up with his fourth save.
QUEBEC 5, ELMIRA 4 @ Elmira, NY. Time: 2:19 ATT: 1,778 W: Min Soo Kim (2-2) L: Greg Keagle (1-3) S: Christian Mendoza (7) HR: QUE - Todd Leathers (7) ELM - Das Jesson (1) C Olivier Lepine and 1B Todd Leathers contributed back-to-back RBI base hits in the sixth inning, leading Quebec to a 5-4 victory over Elmira in a see-saw game. Lepine doubled to score 3B Eddie Lantigua, and Leathers brought home Lepine with a single to cap the scoring. Min Soo Kim allowed four runs, two of them earned, over five innings to get the win. Christian Mendoza struck out two in the ninth, allowing no baserunners, to get his seventh save. Greg Keagle went the distance for Elmira, striking out eight but picking up his third loss with five earned runs. Leathers was 2-for-4, including a homer and three RBIs. SS Das Jesson homered for the Pioneers.
NEW JERSEY 4, WORCESTER 0 @ Little Falls, NJ. Time: 2:11 ATT: 4,031 W: Joe Orloski (1-2) L: Derrell McCall (0-2) Save: None HR: NJ - Sandy Madera (6)
Joe Orloski was brilliant, facing just five batters over the minimum for eight innings as New Jersey beat Worcester 4-0. Orloski allowed just four hits over eight, striking out four. C Sandy Madera led the Jackals offensively, homering and driving in three with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Julio Perez struck out the side in the ninth to seal it for the Jackals.
