
Spirit end Regular Season with 7-3 Win over Spitfires

(Saginaw MI) The Saginaw Spirit won 7-3 against the Windsor Spitfires Sunday afternoon at the Dow Event Center. The Spirit have a record to 44-21-0-3 and 91 points. Center Tom Pyatt tallied his 43rd goal of the season, beating the single season goal record previously held by Nick Lees (2003-04); it was also Pyatt's 200th OHL career point.
The Spirit came out strong to start the contest. Winger Tom Craig scored the first goal of the game at the 4:30 mark in the first. The goal was assisted by d-man Nigel Williams (COL 06) and center Jack Combs. Spirit winger Jan Mursak (DET 06) continued the scoring with a goal at the 6:22 mark, courtesy assists from center Cody Bass (OTT 05) and d-man Garrett Sinfield. Windsor's Jordan Nolan scored the first goal for the Spitfires at 7:46 and was assisted by John Kurts and Kevin Hudes. Spirit winger Tomas Zaborsky (NYR 06) ended the first period with a goal in the last two seconds taking the score to 3-1. The goal was assisted by Mursak and d-man Mitch Maunu.
The Spitfires started the second period scoring when d-man Blake Parlett caught a cross-ice pass and scored at the 7:28 mark. Windsor's Jordan Nolan and Mickey Renaud assisted on the goal. Saginaw center Tom Pyatt (NYR 05) scored a power play goal at the 13:38 mark, assisted by winger Ryan O'Marra (EDM) and Williams. Winger Ryan McDonough moved the score to 5-2 with a goal at 18:26 in the second, assisted by O'Marra.
The Spirit sealed the game in the third period. D-man Andrew Hotham scored a goal at the 8:25 mark in the third, assisted by McDonough and Maunu. Saginaw's Mursak followed with a goal at the 9:35 mark, moving the score to 7-2. McDonough and d-man Nick Crawford assisted on Mursak's second goal of the evening. Windsor managed a late goal at the 18:43 mark by, with Kevin Hudes and Eric Wellwood feeding the puck to Kevin Hudes.
Saginaw goalie Ryan Daniels (OTT 06) stopped 20 shots in the game. The Saginaw Spirit will start the first round of playoffs this Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24, at the Dow Event Center against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Both games start at 7:11 PM.
