North Shore Spirit News Release

Lynn, MA – The North Shore Spirit moved into a tie for first place in the second half standings after crushing the New Haven County Cutters 14-4 Saturday at the New Fraser Field.

New Haven started the scoring in the first when lead off man Jose Mateo singled to rightfield, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error by Spirit starter Justin Gordon.

The Spirit came right back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Lucas Taylor started off the run with a single, followed by a Nelson Teilon double and Vic Davilla single. Travis Oglesby drew an RBI walk, Brian Macchi reached on a fielder's choice and Onix Mercado drove in the final run of the inning with a single to rightfield.

The County Cutters added one run in the second and the Spirit tacked on two in the fourth after back-to-back walks by Teilon and Davilla and a fielder's choice RBI from Joe Hastings. Brian Macchi doubled down the leftfield line to score Hastings and give the Spirit some extra breathing room with a 7-2 lead.

New Haven didn't give up though and scored two in the fifth, highlighted by a Billy Rich RBI double. Hastings blasted a solo shot over the rightfield fence in the bottom of the sixth, his ninth of the year, to put the Spirit up 8-4.

To add even more insurance, the Spirit put six runs on the board in the seventh. Oglesby had a two-run homer, his second in as many nights, Brian Macchi doubled and Onix Mercado drove in a run with his first triple of the season.

Justin Gordon (2-0) got the win for the Spirit and Klae Calvert picked up the save. Wes Mindingall (2-6) took the loss for New Haven.

The Spirit finished with 19 hits on the night. Macchi was 4-5 for the night with two runs scored and an RBI, Mercado went 3-4 with 2 RBI and Tielon was 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
