New Haven County Cutters News Release
(Lynn, MA- August 14, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters dropped their fourth straight on Saturday night, falling to the North Shore Spirit 14-4 at New Fraser Field. Klae Clabert (2-0) worked the final 5.1 innings to earn his second win of the season for the Spirit. New Haven starter Wes Mindingall took the loss, dropping his record to 2-6. The offensive output from FridayÂfs game carried over into the first inning of Saturday contest. The Cutters jumped on the board first as Jose Mateo led things off with a single. After Mateo moved to second on a passed ball, P.J. Johnston bunted a ball back to Spirit starter Justin Gordon who threw the ball away allowing Mateo to score the gameÂfs first run. In the bottom of the inning, the Spirit sent nine batters to plate and scored five times against New Haven starter Wes Mindingall. Nilson Teilon, Travis Oglesby, Brian Macchi, and Onix Mercado all collected RBIs in the inning for the Spirit giving North Shore a 5-1 lead after one. In the top of the second, Adam Shorsher led off with a single for New Haven. Kevin Forbes then walked putting runners on first and second with nobody out for Billy Rich. The Meriden, CT native smacked a RBI single scoring Shorsher and cutting the Spirit lead to 5-2. Aided by three Wes Mindingall walks and a Jeff Brooks fielding error, North Shore added two more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 7-2. Mindingall left the game after four, allowing seven runs, six earned on eight hits while walking seven. Spirit starter Justin Gordon retired the first two batters in the fifth, but then walked Adam Shorsher and Kevin Forbes putting runners on first and second with two out. Right-hander Klae Calvert came on to relieve Gordon and gave up a RBI double to Billy Rich making it a 7-3 game. Calvert then uncorked a wild pitch that scored Forbes from third and brought New Haven to within three at 7-4. Joe Hastings added a solo homerun for the Spirit in the sixth off Luke Lambo and Travis Oglesby hit a two-run blast off Greg McCarthy in a six run seventh for North Shore. With their fourteen runs, North Shore reached double digits for the third straight game against New Haven. Cutters center fielder Billy Rich went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the loss. The Cutters return home on Friday August 20th for a three game series against the North Shore Spirit. A Fireworks Spectacular follows every Friday home game this summer at historic Yale Field.
