North Shore Spirit News Release

Behind a brilliant performance from starter John Kelly, the North Shore Spirit downed the Grays 7-1 Saturday night.

Jelly (2-1) tossed seven innings of four hit baseball. He allowed one run (unearned) and struck out seven. Peter Soteropoulos and Ryan McCally each pitched shutout innings of relief for the Spirit. Gray's starter Greg Conden (0-2) suffered the loss.

North Shore opened the scoring in the first. After walks to Agramonte, Storey and Davilla, Travis Oglesby picked up an RBI with a groundout to short.

The Spirit tacked on three more in the third thanks to shaky Gray's defense. Eric Storey leadoff with a base hit and advanced to third when leftfielder BJ Weed dropped Vic Davilla's line drive. Oglesby hit a sac fly to left, plating Storey. Two batters later, North Shore made it 3-0 when Alex Garcia couldn't handle Brian Macchi's grounder, allowing Davilla to score. Garrett Weir put the Spirit up by four with RBI infield hit.

The Grays pushed across an unearned run against Kelly in the fifth. With two down, Eddie Gerald walked and moved to second on an Eric Storey error. Larry Best then looped a single to center, scoring Gerald and cutting the deficit to 4-1.

In the ninth, North Shore put a three spot on the board, highlighted by a Rob Fischer RBI double.
