
Spirit Battle Otters to 6-4 Loss

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit battled the Erie Otters to a 6-4 loss Saturday night, but the Spirit outshot their conference rival 42-39. Rookie winger Anthony Camara earned the game's first star with two goals and an assist in the effort. Saginaw's record moves to 3-1-0-0 with the loss, and the team returns to action on the road Thursday, October 1 against the Brampton Battalion.
The Otters jumped to a 2-0 lead early in the first, the first goal courtesy winger Anthony Luciani at the 5:29 mark. The goal was assisted by defensemen Brett Cook and Tyler Hostetter. Erie winger David Boll followed with a goal at 8:13 in the first, with former Spirit forward Zack Torquato notching an assist along with defenseman Mitch Gaulton (NHL NEW YORK RANGERS). The Spirit answered a minute later when rookie center Vincent Trocheck scored at 9:13, with assists going to defenseman Nick Crawford (NHL Buffalo Sabres) and winger Anthony Camara.
The two teams traded goals in the second, with Erie moving the score to 3-1 after scored his second goal of the night at the 3:06 mark. Former Spirit blueliner Christopher Breen assisted. Saginaw matched the goal at 9:39 in the frame when center Ivan Telegin scored at 9:36 courtesy assists from defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL Calgary Flames) and Trocheck.
The third period saw a plethora of scoring, starting with the Erie Otters scoring two in the opening minutes grow their lead to 5-2. Erie winger Matthew Paton notched a goal for the Otters at 6:18 in the third period, with assists by winger Stephen Genua and centerJordan Coccimiglio. Center Greg McKegg followed with a power play goal at the 9:36 mark, giving the Otters a three goal lead. Hostetter and center Andrew Yogan assisted on the goal.
The Spirit battled back in the final minutes of the third period, notching two consecutive goals to reduce to scoring deficit. Rookie winger Anthony Camara tallied two goals, the first of his OHL career. The first came at the 10:27 mark, courtesy assists from Jordan Skellett and Josh Shalla. Camara notched his second moments later at 11:44 in the period, this time with the assists being awarded to Jordan Skellett and Shalla. Despite the effort, the Otters clinched the win in the final second with an empty net goal from Yogan.
Spirit netminder Andrew Peters notched 34 saves on 39 shots while Otters goal Shane Owen tallied 37 saves on 41 shots.
