Saginaw Spirit News Release
The Saginaw Spirit fought back against division leading Sarnia for the second straight game, but fell 4-3 on Saturday night in Saginaw. The Sting opened scoring in the first period and added three more goals in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Sting tapped in three power play goals on the night. But Saginaw battled back with three straight goals in the second and third periods, and played the final minute-30 with an extra attacker. However, the Spirit couldn't put in the game tying goal.
The Spirit scoring started when Jean-Michel Rizk took a Phil Kozak pass to the net, less than a minute after the final Sting goal. Jesse Gimblett assisted, extending his points streak to six games. Nick Lees added his 26th goal of the season, and Mike Suggs capped Spirit scoring half way through the third period on a knock-in through heavy traffic in front of the Sting net.
The crowd of 4617 was the fourth largest of the season for the Spirit.
Spirit goaltender Erif Pfligler stopped 23 shots in the effort. The loss takes the Spirit record to 12-31-2-3 on the season. Saginaw returns to action Sunday at 2:00 PM against the Plymouth Whalers. It's a family fun day, courtesy SMG, The Saginaw News, SBC, Pepsi and Express Stop Food Stores plus a skate with the players event after the game.
