Erie Otters News Release
The Kitchener Rangers scored six times in the first period on their way to an 8-5 win over the ERIE OTTERS in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,878 at the Tullio Arena.
Petr Kanko, Nathan O'Nabigon, David Clarkson, Adam Keefe, Andre Benoit and Mike Richards all scored to spark the first-period explosion as the Rangers built a 6-1 lead after one.
O'Nabigon, with his second, and Evan McGrath rounded out the Rangers' scoring.
Geoff Platt scored three times to lead the OTTERS. Platt has scored a point in all seven games he's played as a member of the OTTERS and has eight goals and four assists during the streak.
Chris Campoli and Jake Heller had the others. Campoli, who also collected two assists, tied his own franchise record for points in a season by a defenseman with 48. The veteran blue liner also had 48 points in 2002-2003.
The OTTERS saw their six-game home winning streak and eight-game home-unbeaten streak (7-0-1) come to an end with the loss. ERIE is now 22-18-5-1 on the season.
The Rangers won for the second straight time to improve to 26-13-6-1.
Kitchener led 6-1 after one and 7-4 heading into the third.
The OTTERS out shot the Rangers 38-33 in the game as Josh Disher took the loss. Disher started and allowed three goals on seven shots and was replaced by Jhase Sniderman seven minutes into the game. Sniderman lasted until the midway point of the second period allowing four goals on 12 shots. Disher returned between the pipes with the OTTERS trailing 7-4.
The three stars of the game were 1. Platt; 2. O'Nabigon and 3. McGrath.
The OTTERS close out weekend action Sunday when they travel to London to face off against the Knights. The game can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 the FAN and at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 5:45 p.m.
The next OTTERS home game takes place Saturday (January 31st) when the Sarnia Sting visit the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
