Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MA - After a six-game road trip, to say they were happy to be home would be putting it mildly as the Lowell Spinners (19-8), proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, rode a five-run third inning to a 5-3 victory over the Auburn Doubledays (13-15), affiliate of the Washington Nationals, in front of a sellout crowd at LeLacheur Park.
Yusniel Padron-Artilles got the start on the mound for the Spinners. He improved to 4-0 with the victory going six innings, allowing all three runs (all earned) on eight hits while striking out four and walking just one.
Although, Lowell won the game, it was the Doubledays that got on the board first when David Masters singled home Jake Randa, giving Auburn an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom half, the Spinners loaded up the bases, but stranded them when Nick Northcut and Luke Bandy both flew out to end the inning.
Lowell got the runs back in the bottom of the third inning when they erupted for five runs in the frame. The first two came on an RBI single by Elih Marrero that scored Stephen Scott and Alex Erro from second and third, giving the Spinners a 2-1 lead.
After Northcut reached on an infield single, advancing Marrero to second base, Nick Decker followed with a three-run blast that cleared the right field scoreboard by plenty and bounced into the Merrimack River (most likely).
The Doubledays struck for two more in the top of the fourth, courtesy of a solo home run by Caldioli Sanfler and a Jake Arruda double, but that's as close as the score would get.
The Spinners are back in action on Sunday night, when they take on the Doubledays in the second of three at LeLacheur Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. as well.
The Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, offer Season Ticket Packages, Mini-Plans, Group Sales, and Single Game Tickets.
