
Tigers Return Home with Victory over Tri-City

Norwich, CT - Corey Joyce went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and the Connecticut Tigers (13-15) took down the Tri-City ValleyCats (11-16) 9-6 in the first matchup of the season. Joyce has now totaled four RBIs in the last two games for the Tigers.
Tri-City got on the board first in the third inning. After back-to-back walks by Xavier Javier (Win, 1-0), the ValleyCats pushed across two runs on a fielding error by Connecticut. Javier finished the contest going a season-high six innings with a season-high six strikeouts.
Connecticut exploded in the fourth frame with seven runs on six hits. Hector Martinez brought home the first run on an RBI infield-single. Martinez is tied for the team-lead in RBIs at 11 in seven games played for Connecticut.
Kona Quiggle scored his first run of the contest when Gresuan Silverio reached on an error by the ValleyCats. Tri-City had three separate errors in the contest.
After Joyce singled home a run to tie the game at 3-3, Riley Greene delivered his first RBI single at Dodd Stadium in the inning to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead. Greene has hit safely in all five appearances with the Tigers this season.
Ryan Kreidler extended the lead to 6-3 with a two-RBI single, and Eliezer Alfonzo brought home a run on a fielder's choice to cap off the seven-run frame.
Tri-City scored two runs to in the top half of the seventh to cut the lead to 7-5. However, the Tigers answered with two of their own in the bottom of the frame. Eric De La Rosa brought home a run on a a fielder's choice, and Joyce batted in his second run with a single to left field.
Bryan Arias brought home a run with an RBI single in the ninth, but Zac Shepherd closed the door for Connecticut in the frame. Shepherd went two innings giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
The Connecticut Tigers are back in action tomorrow in game two of the series against the Tri-City ValleyCats. Chavez Fernander will be on the mound tomorrow afternoon for the Tigers.
