State College Spikes News Release
(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The State College Spikes will honor our military heroes in several ways this season, including the season-long "Veterans Row," presented by VFW Post 5825 Pine Grove Mills, and Military Appreciation Night on Sunday, July 10, presented by Lion Country Kia.
Veterans Row will pay tribute to our military veterans with dedicated seats at every 2016 Spikes home game for the brave men and women who have served our country, thanks to the partnership between the Spikes and VFW Post 5825 Pine Grove Mills.
Fans can nominate family, friends and loved ones who have served our country in time of war for seats on Veterans Row through the State College Spikes Facebook page or on Twitter to @SCSpikes. Any fan can make a nomination, and those that are nominated can then pick up their tickets for the game of their choice at the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office on the date of the game.
Veterans Row will also remember those who have not yet returned home from battle with a special seat in honor of prisoners of war (POW) and those still missing in action (MIA). The POW/MIA seat will remain unfilled throughout the season, reserved in hopes that all of these soldiers may return one day.
The Spikes will also pay homage to our troops during Military Appreciation Night, presented by Lion Country Kia, on Sunday, July 10 when the Spikes face the Auburn Doubledays at 6:05 p.m. Fans will be able to bid in a Game-Worn Patriotic Hat Auction benefiting PSU for Local Wounded Warriors, presented by Lion Country Kia, during the game.
The night will also include military vehicles on display for fans to interact with during the night, as well as tributes to those who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces throughout the evening.
In addition, the first 1,000 fans through the gates on Military Appreciation Night will receive a Mitch Harris Poster Giveaway presented by Lion Country Kia. Harris started his professional career with the Spikes in 2013 after serving five years as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, including three tours of the Persian Gulf. The right-hander then became the first United States Naval Academy graduate to reach the majors since 1922 when he debuted for the St. Louis Cardinals last year.
"It is our honor to be able to partner with VFW Post 5825 Pine Grove Mills and Lion Country Kia to give something back to the veterans who have given so much to us," said Spikes General Manager Scott Walker. "We encourage all of our fans to join us in honoring our American soldiers by nominating them for a seat on Veterans Row and by participating in all of the Military Appreciation Night activities on July 10."
"As a veteran, it gives me great pride to see local business and the community supporting all the great men and women who have served our nation," said Lion Country Kia Sales Manager Casey Flynn. "We are truly the land of the free because of the brave."
The first opportunity for our military heroes to take their seats in Veterans Row will be on Saturday, June 18 when the Spikes start the 2016 home schedule with Opening Night, presented by PSECU and Newsradio 1390 WRSC. The Spikes will be home for 38 nights this summer through September 4.
