State College Spikes News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Edwin Figuera drove in three runs, Wadye Ynfante delivered a three-hit game, and Diego Cordero made his second quality start of the road trip to lead the State College Spikes to a 7-1 win over the Lowell Spinners on Sunday night to clinch a three-game series sweep at LeLacheur Park.
The sweep was the Spikes' (18-23) first of the 2018 season and increased their winning streak to a season-long four games.
Figuera produced a pair of doubles, plating two runs in the third inning before bringing in another in the fifth. The State College third baseman also scored a run following each two-base hit, giving him a hand in all of the Spikes' first five runs.
Ynfante brought in a run in the eighth with his third hit, and second double, of the game.
Cordero (2-1) allowed just one run on four hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win. The left-hander also struck out four batters in the effort, which came five days after he yielded three runs over six-plus innings against Connecticut.
Justin Toerner also knocked in a run in the second and went 2-for-4 at the plate for State College. Stanley Espinal went 1-for-4 with and RBI to help the Spikes offense.
Lowell (21-21) reliever Taylor Ahearn (2-2) took the loss after allowing five runs, three of them earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out one batters over three innings.
Trey Ganns was the only Spinner with multiple hits and added a double. Kole Cottam's single in the seventh drove in the lone Lowell run.
State College starting pitchers allowed just six earned runs over 35 1/3 innings during the six-game road trip for an ERA of 1.53.
