Spikes Home Opener Packs Plenty of Family Fun

STATE COLLEGE - State College Spikes fans can bring in the team's fifth season of providing Central PA's Best Family Value with a wealth of fun festivities surrounding the 2010 Home Opener against the rival Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) on Saturday, June 19.

The activities begin with the 2010 Summer Kickoff Carnival in Porter Gardens and at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The annual event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Porter Gardens area of the park, and admission is free to fans of all ages. Carnival goers will enjoy a wide variety of fun activities, including the Spikes' new Kids Zone inflatables, carnival games for all ages, and appearances from Ike the Spike and the Nittany Bank Nookie Monster. Ballpark snacks will also be available for purchase.

The 2010 season then begins as the Spikes hit the field for the Home Opener against the Crosscutters. Gates will open at the special times of 5:30 p.m. for the general public and 5:20 p.m. for season ticket holders. Former Penn State star wide receiver and current Philadelphia Eagle Jordan Norwood will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game and sign autographs on the concourse from 7:15-8:15 p.m. Fans will also be entertained with a live musical performance at the ballpark by Central PA favorites The Brew Devils, beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Once inside the gates, Spikes fans will encounter an array of fun promotions, starting with a 2010 Spikes Schedule Magnet Giveaway to the first 3,000 fans of all ages, presented by PSECU. PSECU will also present a phenomenal FIREWORKS display after the game, with the Centre Daily Times as media sponsor. Plus, every fans will be a winner on Scratch n' Win Saturday, as each fan will receive a scratch-off card with a great Spikes prize on it.
