State College Spikes News Release
TONIGHT'S GAME AT A GLANCE: State College Spikes will open their 2007 season on the road against the Williamsport Crosscutters tonight at 7:05. The game will mark the Spikes first as a Pirate affiliate and the âCutters first as a Phillies farm squad, which will give the SawBuck Series a new, all-Keystone feel. Last season, the Spikes won the SawBuck Series 9 games to 3 despite only outscoring the Crosscutters by 12 runs.
TONIGHT'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Right-hander Basilio Alvarez (0-0, 0.00) takes the mound for the Spikes against Williamsport left-hander Sergio Escalano (0-0, 0.00). Alvarez is one of 10 former Crosscutters who will suit up for the Spikes for the first time. RHP Moises Robles will make the start for the Spikes tomorrow for the team's home opener.
OPENING NIGHT IN STATE COLLEGE: The State College Spikes will open their home schedule on Wednesday evening at 7:05 against these same Williamsport Crosscutters. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with numerous activities taking place prior to the game:
- National recording artist Illinois to perform pre-game in Porter Gardens from 5:00 - 6:30.
- Tethered hot-air balloon rides from 5:00 - 7:00.
- Traveling baseball troop "The Boys of Baseball" will entertain the crowd with their pre-game skits.
- Ceremonial first pitch from former PSU All-American WR Kenny Jackson
- National Anthem performance by the Nittany Valley Symphony
