State College Spikes News Release
STATE COLLEGE - Kelson Brown continued his hot streak with the game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning as the State College Spikes came from behind to beat the Batavia Muckdogs for the second night in a row, 5-4, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Tuesday night.
Brown also started the State College (2-3) rally in the seventh inning with a leadoff triple, scoring on Matt Skirving's single one batter later to draw the Spikes within a run at 4-3. Justin Bencsko then got the State College offense going in the eighth with a one-out walk. After a wild pitch moved Bencsko to second, Chase Lyles knocked him in with a single to left field to tie the game, 4-4. Two batters later, Brown poked a pitch into right field to plate Lyles for the go-ahead run.
Skirving finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in. Lyles also collected two hits in the game.
Eliecer Navarro (1-0) picked up the win for State College with three shutout innings, retiring the first eight Batavia (2-3) batters he faced and allowing only one hit. Navarro also struck out two.
Tyler Waldron made his first professional start on the mound for State College, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings of work. The Pirates' fifth-round draft pick this year out of Oregon State, Waldron also struck out a batter and walked one.
Muckdogs reliever Jose Rada (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in the eight inning.
Catcher Audry Perez was Batavia's main offensive producer, notching two hits and two runs batted in.
Wednesday, the Spikes look to sweep the Muckdogs as the two teams finish up their three-game set with a 7:05 p.m. matchup. State College will send left-hander Zack Von Rosenberg (0-1) to the mound for his Medlar Field at Lubrano Park debut. Von Rosenberg, the Pirates' sixth-round draft pick last year out of Zachary High School in Louisiana, started and took the loss on Opening Night in Williamsport.
Batavia will respond with right-hander Chris Corrigan (0-0) on the hill. In his first appearance, Corrigan allowed five runs on six hits over 3-1/3 innings on Friday night in Auburn.
Fans can take advantage of Half-Price Wednesday at the ballpark, presented by Froggy 101. All Outfield Bleacher seats will be available at half-price, and half-price drink specials will be offered from the time the gates open at 6 p.m. until one hour into the game.
It's also the Spikes' 5th Anniversary Celebration, as fans will enjoy memories from the previous four seasons of Spikes baseball throughout the night. In addition, the first 1,000 fans of all ages will receive a Spikes Commemorative Photo Baseball, presented by P.J. Harrigan's and featuring former Spikes stars Jason Motte, Brian Friday, Chase d'Arnaud and Brock Holt.
Fans can catch all of the action on the Spikes Radio Network and flagship station 95.3 FM 3WZ starting at 6:35 p.m. with the Spikes GameDay Show live from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
