BURLINGTON, VT --- The Vermont Lake Monsters completed a 4-1 homestand to start the 2010 season with a 6-2 New York-Penn League victory over the Connecticut Tigers on Tuesday night at historic Centennial Field for their third straight win.
The Lake Monsters got their fifth straight solid outing from a starting pitcher as Bobby Hansen tossed four scoreless innings with three hits and no walks. Eight of the 12 outs that Hansen recorded were by strikeout as 37 of the 45 pitches in the left-hander's four innings were for strikeouts. Vermont starters have now allowed just two earned runs over 23 2/3 innings (0.76 ERA) with two walks and 32 strikeouts in five games.
Vermont scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead. Ronnie LaBrie singled with one out in the second inning, stole second base and scored on a Jack Walker RBI single. Walker scored one out later on a RBI groundball single to right from Justin Miller for a 2-0 Vermont advantage.
Blake Kelso led off the third with a double and scored one out later on a David Freitas sacrifice fly. After Wade Moore was hit by a pitch, LaBrie lined a triple up the rightcenterfield gap to plate Moore with the Lake Monsters fourth run. Marcus Jones had an RBI double to center in the fifth for a 5-0 Vermont lead.
The Tigers got an unearned run in the sixth off reliever Mark Herrera and another unearned run off Neil Halland in the eighth. Matt Mansilla, who was 3-for-4 on the night, had an RBI single in the sixth for Connecticut (2-3).
