SPHL Makes Late Changes to Schedule
July 26, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Charlotte, N.C. --- The regular season calendar for the 2011-12 SPHL season has recently had some minor adjustments.
A total of nine games have been affected by the last minute alterations. Two of these contests directly affect the Mississippi RiverKings.
Luckily for the Kings, the only changes made to the schedule will involve a change in opponents for two games with no affect to the original dates or times of the games.
Recent conflicts began to arise throughout the league regarding arena availability, which created complications in travel and the need for some uncharacteristically last minute modifications to the full regular season schedule.
The RiverKings were slated to play their in-state rival and defending SPHL President's Cup Champion Mississippi Surge during the annual 'Face Off Field Trip' game on Tuesday, November 15 at 10:05 a.m. The Desoto Civic Center will now play host to the Hunsville Havoc in the first regular season game against the RiverKings' closest rival.
This matchup represents game number one out of the 10 that these these two squads will play against each other during the 56-game schedule. In addition, Mississippi recently announced a pre-season partnership with Huntsville to play two exhibition games during the first week of training camp. The home-and-home series will begin in Alabama on Thursday October 13 before the squads travel to the Mid-South for a second tune-up nearly a week before the start of the regular season.
The game on Tuesday, January 31 is the only other change seen on the calendar for the RiverKings at this time. This game will feature the Mississippi Surge rather than the aforementioned Huntsville Havoc.
