Speedy Shortstop Back With Jacks

March 4, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- Infielder Mistsuru Kobayashi is back with the Bangor Lumberjacks, the Northeast League club announced today. “Koby” was a member of the Lumberjacks last season, but his season was cut short by a back injury after just 25 games, which required season ending back surgery.

A native of Kanagawa, Japan, Kobayashi hit .225 with eight stolen bases and ten RBI from the leadoff position last season. In 2002, the shortstop hit .270 and swiped eighteen bags for the Adirondack Lumberjacks. That season, Kobayashi set the franchise record for runs scored in a season with 73 and also drew 55 walks. Kobayashi was acquired by the Lumberjacks in a trade with the Lincoln (NE) Saltdogs of the Northern League in August of 2001.

The Lumberjacks also announced today that they have agreed to terms with RHP Mark Messina, a rookie out of SUNY Binghamton. Messina will be given an opportunity to compete for a spot on the Lumberjacks pitching staff during spring training.

Season Tickets and Pack Tickets are on sale now at the Jacks store in the Bangor Mall. The Lumberjacks begin the 2004 season on the road in New Jersey, and open at home on Thursday, June 3 at 6:30 PM at the new John Winkin Baseball Complex on the campus of Husson College in Bangor. Please call 207-947-1900 for all ticket, promotional, and sponsorship information or stop in the Lumberjacks Pro Shop located in the Bangor Mall.
