Can-Am Canadian American League

New Haven minority owner Brian Leetch traded to Toronto Maple Leafs

March 4, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Brian Leetch, a minority owner of the New Haven Cutters, saw his 17-year career with the Rangers come to an end today when he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Cutters, who moved from Berkshire at the end of last season, begin Northeast League play on May 27 at Elmira.

Brian Leetch had a 90-mile per hour fastball when he pitched in high school, but he ended up lacing on skates to become a world class hockey player. Hockey awards came early to this onetime Cheshire, CT resident, who was two-time most valuable player at Avon Old Farms as well all-New England Prep School Player of the Year in 1985-86. He was selected by the Connecticut Sportswriter's Association and Sports Illustrated magazine as one of the Nutmeg State's top 12 athletes of the 20th century.

As a professional, Leetch has played in more than 1,100 regular season games for the New York Rangers since his debut February 29, 1988 and is nearing 1,000 points. The defenseman also has played in the Olympic Games three times in his highly-acclaimed career.
