Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks have partnered with Deere & Company to support youth hockey in the Cedar Valley during the Black Hawks' annual John Deere Weekend, January 22nd and 23rd.
Black Hawk players will wear a new edition of unique Deere uniforms during the two-game weekend. Proceeds from an auction of the jerseys after the Saturday, January 23rd game against the Omaha Lancers will benefit the Waterloo Youth Hockey Association, the Waterloo Warriors, and Waterloo Leisure Services' "Learn to Play Hockey" program. The 2010 John Deere weekend marks the third time the Hawks have sported John Deere colors, with jersey auctions the past two seasons combining to raise over $20,000 for young hockey players in the area.
"I think it is pretty safe to say that there is no company that has influenced the Cedar Valley in the way that John Deere has," remarked Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "We are proud to wear their logo on our jerseys and to be part of the fundraising effort for the Junior Hawks."
Added Black Hawks President Doug Miller, "I'm not sure that the Cedar Valley, or even eastern Iowa more broadly, has had a better corporate friend than Deere & Company. They've helped keep families farming and provided great jobs for their employees and for many folks who work for local companies that support their operations. Above and beyond all that, they find meaningful ways to give back even more to the communities where they have a presence."
The 2010 edition uniforms are mostly black, with white trim and numbers on the sleeves and back. John Deere's trademark logo, a leaping yellow buck silhouette on a green background, is displayed on the chest. The jersey design also includes an American flag on the right shoulder and the Black Hawks' emblem on the top of each sleeve.
Also next weekend, John Deere employees and their families can purchase specially priced $7 tickets for the games against Youngstown January 22nd and Omaha January 23rd by showing their employee badge at the Black Hawks' box office. Great seats remain for both nights. For tickets to those games or this weekend's match-ups, dial (319) 291-7680 or visit waterlooblackhawks.com.
