The Saint John Sea Dogs (22-25-1-0) fell 4-1 to the Québec Remparts (19-26-2-1) on Wednesday night at the Centre Videotron in Québec City. Special teams were the difference as the Remparts added two power play goals while the Sea Dogs failed to convert on four chances.

Rookie Noah Patenaude got the start in goal for Saint John. Patenaude was 7-4 entering the game with seven straight wins. Québec started Tristan Côté-Cazenave, who they acquired at the trade deadline from the Victoriaville Tigres.

A stalemate first period was broken after Nicholas Deakin-Poot went off for tripping at 18:58 and the Remparts capitalized on the power play. Rookie James Malatesta fed Anthony Gagnon with a cross crease pass and Gagnon finished with a one timer over the shoulder of Patenaude.

Shots in the first period were 13-10 Remparts.

Québec carried momentum throughout the second period after the Sea Dogs got into a bit of penalty trouble. Durocher went off for hooking at 1:20 followed by Burns for slashing at 10:51.

The Remparts thought they had their second goal after jamming away in front as Patenaude laid in the crease but the goal was called off after review.

Brady Burns served a too many men penalty at 16:25 and the Remparts would capitalize. With traffic in front of Patenaude, Pierrick Dubé made it 2-0 Remparts when he chipped home a loose puck.

Saint John had their own power play advantage with two minutes to go in the period managing three shots on goal but couldn't solve Côté-Cazenave.

Shots in the second period were 17-11 Québec.

Jacob Melanson scored for the Remparts three minutes into the third to make it 3-0.

Québec thought they had a fourth when Pierrick Dubé ripped a high shot past Patenaude but the goal was called back due to the play being offside.

Saint John got on the board at 8:55 when Jordan Spadafore found a wind open Dawson Stairs at the side of the net, Stairs one timered it home for his 16th of the season to make it 3-1.

With Patenaude pulled for the extra attacker Québec added one more for the final score, 4-1.
