LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks signed veteran guard Amber Jacobs Monday, it was announced. To make room on the roster, the Sparks waived rookie forward Kamela Gissendanner.

Jacobs, 26, an All-American at Boston College, has averaged 4.5 points and 2.1 assists in her four-plus WNBA seasons. She spent four years with Minnesota before being signed by Washington this season. The 5-8 Jacobs averaged 8.2 points and 3.4 assists in a starting role with Minnesota in 2006. She averaged 1.7 points and 1.8 assists in six games this season with Washington before being waived. Gissendanner had appeared in just two games with the Sparks.

"We signed Amber to strengthen our backcourt," said Sparks' head coach Michael Cooper. "She's a good, seasoned vet that can hit a jump shot and give us solid defensive presence from the guard position."

"I'm really excited about this opportunity," Jacobs said. "Who wouldn't want to come and play for the best team in the league? Coach Cooper explained why I'm here and my role on the team, and I'm looking forward to fulfilling that role."
