
Sparks Head Coach Michael Cooper Honored Tomorrow at 8th Annual L.A. Sports Fans Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES -Los Angeles Sparks head coach Michael Cooper, a member of five NBA championship teams with the Los Angeles Lakers, will be honored during the 8th Annual L.A. Sports Fans Choice Awards, Thursday, Jan. 10 presented by Sports Profiles Plus (SPP).
Cooper, along with former L.A. Galaxy midfielder and current Galaxy assistant coach Cobi Jones, will receive the Commitment to Excellence Award.
Considered one of the premier defensive players of his era, Cooper was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1987. He was named five times to the All-NBA Defensive First Team. As a coach, Cooper guided the Sparks to two WNBA titles (2001-2002) and was named the WNBA Coach of the Year in 2000.
The Special Humanitarian Award will go to three-time NBA champion and current Lakers guard Derek Fisher.
The Team Championship Award will be presented to the Anaheim Ducks, who won the Stanley Cup by defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games last spring.
More than 350 professional athletes, celebrities and media are scheduled to attend the award show. Some celebrity guests scheduled to appear include seven-time NBA All-Star and 1988 NBA Finals MVP James Worthy, future Hall of Fame boxer and Pomona native "Sugar" Shane Mosley and NBA champions Sam Cassell and former Laker Norm Nixon, among others.
About the Balloting
Balloting began November 2007 online at www.sppsports.com and ran through last week. Ballots were distributed at various Lakers and Clippers home games in November thru December 20th. More than 296,000 votes were received.
