Los Angeles Sparks News Release

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks announced today the acquisition of 5-foot-11 wing Gabby Williams from the Chicago Sky. In exchange, the Sparks will send rookie Stephanie Watts and the rights to Leonie Fiebich to Chicago. Gabby Williams will remain on the suspended list for the 2021 season to honor her French national team commitments.

"We're excited to bring Gabby Williams into the LA Sparks organization," General Manager/Head Coach Derek Fisher said. "At just 24 years old, Gabby is a versatile player who still has the potential to make a major impact in this league. She fits into what we're building in Los Angeles and we look forward to the future with her in a Sparks uniform."

Williams spent her first three WNBA seasons in Chicago where she averaged 6.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 20.8 minutes per game. Missing just one game over three full seasons, Williams gained experience playing both guard and forward positions.

Williams was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft. Williams graduated from the University of Connecticut where she led the team to a 148-3 record, four Final Four appearances, and back-to-back National Championships.

Stephanie Watts was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft out of North Carolina. Fiebich, a guard from Germany, was the No. 22 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft.

The Sparks begin the 2021 regular season at home against the Dallas Wings on Friday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
