Everett AquaSox News Release
VANCOUVER, BC: Three Everett relievers combined for five shutout innings as the AquaSox took the opening game of a six-game series over the Vancouver Canadians, 2-1, before a crowd of 4,768 at Nat Bailey Stadium. With the win, the AquaSox snapped a three-game losing streak and pulled to within 3 1/2 games of first place Vancouver in the Northwest League second half standings.
Evan Johnson (3-0) got the win in relief. He turned in two shutout innings, allowed one hit, walked one and struck out four. Luis Curvelo followed by blanking the Canadians for two innings with four strikeouts as well. Matthew Willrodt struck out the side in order in the ninth inning to earn his first save.
Vancouver took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a leadoff homerun by Damiano Palmegiani, his sixth of the season. Palmegiani batted 3-for-4 and finished a triple shy of the cycle.
The AquaSox tied the game in the fifth on Mike Salvatore's sixth homerun, which was a rising liner that cleared the fence into Canadians' bullpen.
Everett took the lead for good in the sixth. Noelvi Marte drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and later scored with two outs on a single to center by Dariel Gomez.
Alberto Rodriguez finished 1-for-3 with a walk and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
AquaSox starting pitcher Prelander Berroa went four innings. He allowed just two hits, one run, walked three and struck out six while throwing 66 pitches.
The Frogs will be back at Funko Field on Tuesday, August 2nd against the Hillsboro Hops for Kids Day with a special 11:05am PDT first pitch.
