Vancouver Canadians News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Damiano Palmegiani's first three-hit game in High-A wasn't enough to help the Canadians avoid a 2-1 loss opposite the Everett AquaSox (Mariners) Tuesday night at The Nat.
Things started well enough. Nick Frasso stranded two one-out singles with a pair of strikeouts in the top of the first then retired the side in order in the second before Palmegiani started the scoring with a leadoff line drive home run into the bullpen in left field to make it 1-0 C's. The Surrey, BC native then watched from first base as Frasso finished his four-inning outing with six straight outs after getting the previous five in a row. His final line: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K.
After Frasso's exit, the 'Sox got to reliever Naswell Paulino (L, 2-4) for single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game then take a 2-1 lead. The decisive score came when top Mariners prospect Noelvi Marte walked to begin the sixth, stole second then scored on a two-out soft single to center by Northwest League home run leader Dariel Gomez.
Vancouver's offense - which scored a combined 14 runs on 30 hits in a series win at Spokane over the weekend - went 0-for-8 with men in scoring position and only Anthony Morales joined Palmegiani in the hit column.
These two teams entered this series tied 6-6 in their first 12 of 30 meetings this year. The C's will aim to once again even the season set tomorrow night as part of an RBC We Care Wednesday benefitting Challenger Baseball. Newcomer Michael Dominguez makes his High-A debut for the Canadians while the AquaSox have declared the night to be a bullpen game. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on CanadiansBaseball.com, MiLB.TV and Sportsnet 650.
