Everett AquaSox News Release
PASCO, WA: Four different Everett AquaSox (19-21, 50-55) batters hit home runs that accounted for all six of the team's runs. Starting pitcher Juan Mercedes shut down Tri City Dust Devils (14-26, 43-60) hitters on the way to a 6-1 win.
Tri City scored their only run of the night in the first inning, as Osmy Gregorio hit a sacrifice fly scoring Kyren Paris for a 1-0 Dust Devils lead.
The AquaSox then turned on the power beginning in the fourth inning as they hit solo home runs in three consecutive innings. David Sheaffer put Everett on the board in the fourth inning with his first home run of the season. Robert Perez Jr. gave the Sox their first lead of the night with his homer in the fifth inning. It was Perez's third home run in ten games with the AquaSox since getting promoted from Low-A Modesto where he hit 20 home runs in 92 games this season. Alberto Rodriguez extended the lead to 3-1 with a sixth inning blast, his seventh home run of the season.
The AquaSox added three insurance runs in the eighth inning as Dariel Gomez hit a three-run inside the park homer run. Gomez continues to lead the NWL in home runs (21). He also broke the team's single season home run which was set last year by Cade Marlowe.
While the Sox hitters were providing the runs, the team's starting pitcher Juan Mercedes was doing his part to preserve the win. Mercedes went seven innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, one walk and eight strikeouts. Jorge Benitez threw a scoreless eighth inning and Kelvin Nunez pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the game.
Game five of the six game series is scheduled Saturday August 13. RHP Bryan Woo (1-0, 2.00 ERA) will start for the AquaSox and LHP Jose Salvador (2-6, 5.23 ERA) will take the mound for the Dust Devils. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tune in to 1380 AM/95.3 FM KRKO for all of the action.
