Sox Fall 2-0 to Schooners

July 18, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Valley Blue Sox News Release

HOLYOKE, MA--Sox starter Jordan Hillyer threw eight innings of two-hit, seven strikeout baseball and allowed no earned runs, but took a 2-0 loss as his defense and offense simply let him down in front of 1,742 fans at Mackenzie Stadium against the Mystic Schooners.

Mystic got the only run they needed in the fourth inning on a walk, a hit batsman, a passed ball, and then a sacrifice fly as designated hitter Tyler Boyd scored on first baseman Joel Rosencrance's fly out to center. They added an insurance run in a similar manner in the eighth, with a walk, a passed ball, and an infield single bringing in a second unearned run for the Schooners.

Hillyer had three walks in the loss as well, while Schooners starter Tucker Panciera went six innings with four hits and a walk against to take the win, and Eric Morse tossed two innings of one hit, one walk scoreless relief for the save.

Holyoke heads to North Adams tomorrow to take on the Steeplecats; they next return home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against the division leading Vermont Mountaineers; gates open at 4:00 PM and the first pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
