Casper, WY - Tonight the Great Falls White Sox were defeated by the Casper Rockies 6-3 at Mike Lansing Field in Casper. Nick Lemon (0-2) took the loss for the Sox as he worked two-thirds of an inning, allowing a walk-off, three-run homer in the 12th inning. The win went to Sean Ruthven (1-0) as he worked one inning, allowing only a walk.
Great Falls jumped on the board early in the top of the first inning. Evan Tartaglia scored on an infield single by Francisco Hernandez. In the bottom of the inning Casper evened the score when Kyle Blumenthal doubled home Eric Young Jr.
In the second inning the Sox would take the lead back. Javier Castillo scored on a Casper error to make the score 2-1 Sox. In the fourth inning, Casper would again tie the game on a Chris Cook solo home run.
Great Falls would take the lead for the third time in the game when Tartaglia singled home Brandon Johnson. However, the Rockies would again draw even when Chris Cook walked, then advanced home on three separate wild-pitches thrown by James Casey.
The game went to extra innings and in the 11th Matt Nachreiner would work out of a jam. With the winning run on third and only one out, Nachreiner would get a two groundball outs to send the game to the 12th inning. In the bottom of the 12th, the Rockies would again get a runner on third with only one out. After a shallow fly by out to right, Bret Bergland would hit a walk-off homer over the right field wall to give Casper the 6-3 win.
Tomorrow night the Sox will play the second game of this four game series with the Casper Rockies. The starters for the game are: Clayton Richard (LHP) for Great Falls and Brandon Durden (LHP) for Casper. Game time is at 7:05pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:50.
