Great Falls Voyagers News Release
Casper, WY ¬" Tonight the Great Falls White Sox were defeated by the Casper Rockies 8-6 at Mike Lansing Field in Casper. Israel Chirino (0-1) took the loss for the Sox as he worked two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks. The win went to Ross Hipke (1-0) as he worked two innings in relief, without allowing a hit. The save went to Caspers Andrew Johnston (6) as he worked to four batters, retiring all of them.
Great Falls jumped on the board early in the top of the second inning. Brandon Allen led things off with a homerun to left field. Later in the inning, JJ Schmidt had a two RBI single bringing home Manny Rodriguez and Daron Roberts, before Schmidt would score on an Evan Tartaglia sac fly to go up 4-0.
In the bottom of the second Casper would get a lead off home run by Cole Garner to chip away at the lead. They would score in the fifth inning on an error by Brandon Johnson to make the score 4-2.
After Great Falls starter Clayton Richard left with the lead in the sixth, Israel Chirino came on and allowed the first five Rockies to reach base. He was then relieved by Boone Logan who was touched up for a three-run homerun on his first pitch to Steven Suarez. The Rockies came all the way back to take 8-4.
Great Falls tried to rally in the late innings. In the eighth inning Roberts doubled home Allen before Rodriguez came home on an error by Eric Young to make it an 8-6 game. That would be all the Sox would get as Johnston would shut the door for a four out save. Casper would go on to win 8-6 and take the first two games of the series.
Tonight's game marks the 12th time that a Great Falls starter would take a no decision in a game, and the seventh when leaving in the lead.
Tomorrow night the Sox will play the third game of this four game series with the Casper Rockies. The starters for the game are: Noe Rodriguez (LHP) for Great Falls and Jay Metzger (LHP) for Casper. Game time is at 7:05pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:50.
