Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Announce 2014 Season Schedule

WALDORF, MD - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced today their 2014 season schedule. The schedule once again features a 140 game slate, and 70 home games at Regency Furniture Stadium, the Charles County home of the Blue Crabs in Waldorf.

The Blue Crabs will kick off their 2014 campaign in a four-game series at home versus the Bridgeport Bluefish on Thursday, April 24th concluding on Sunday, April 27th.

Friday, July 4th is sure to be one of the highlights of the summer, when the Blue Crabs host an Independence Day game. The game will kick off a four-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters that will also feature a day/night double header on Saturday, July 5. Of the Blue Crabs 70 home games, 33 will fall on either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, making it most convenient for families to continue to build their fond memories at the ballpark. Thirty-three weekend dates also means plenty of spectacular post-game fireworks shows will be planned.

"We are very pleased with our 2014 schedule. Of course we will plan a huge celebration for Opening Day, and a great fireworks show will follow our game on the Fourth of July in the spirit of Independence Day," said Blue Crabs General Manager Patrick Day. "This schedule offers many opportunities for fans to stay right here for vacation during the 2014 season. We will offer nine innings of vacation each night of the week," Day continued.

The home schedule features six games in April, 15 games in May, 13 games in June, 14 games in July, 15 in August, and 7 in September. The final home game will be played on Thursday, September 18th against Gary Gaetti's Sugar Land Skeeters.

"The 2014 schedule provides countless opportunities for fans to make memories with us in the 2014 season," said Blue Crabs Assistant General Manager of Marketing and Special Events Courtney Knichel. "We broke a franchise attendance record during the 2013 Independence Day game, so that means we have a challenge on our hands to make the 2014 Independence Day game even bigger and better than before!"

The Blue Crabs play 140 regular season games in the Atlantic League, considered the highest level of Minor League Baseball. Atlantic League players are "Major League ready" and in the last 15 years, over 600 players have graduated from Atlantic League clubs to Major League organizations, making the League a preferred route for experienced players to be scouted by Major League Baseball.
