Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE â A red-hot start by the team on the field and increasing discussion of a potential downtown ballpark off the field have contributed to put the Nashville Sounds on pace to register their highest attendance total in 10 years.
The Sounds are averaging 5,355 fans per home game through the team's first 31 openings of the 2003 season, an increase of 687 from last year and nearly 1,000 from the 2001 season. Nashville drew an average of 4,668 fans per game over 69 openings at Greer Stadium during the 2002 season.
"Our fans appreciate the product on the field, the family atmosphere at the ballpark, and the great promotions that keep everyone entertained," said Sounds general manager Glenn Yaeger. "In addition, many fans are showing their support for Minor League Baseball in Nashville by buying tickets and cheering on the Sounds.
"In addition, our ongoing discussions with the city of Nashville regarding a new downtown stadium have caused a buzz in Middle Tennessee communities and we're seeing a lot of people coming out to enjoy the fun atmosphere that Nashville Sounds baseball provides.
Nashville's 166,006 attendance this season is nearly 60,000 ahead of last year's pace and puts the team in line to draw 380,205 fans over the course of the season, which would be the team's best yearly attendance total since 1993 (438,745).
Yaeger cited the affordability of the Sounds' product and the unique place that baseball has in lives of Americans as additional factors why baseball has remained successful in an economic market that has generally caused a decline in the entertainment market.
The Sounds, who are currently on an intra-division road trip to New Orleans and Oklahoma City, return to Greer Stadium on Tuesday, June 17, when they'll take on the Iowa Cubs to open an eight-game homestand.
Tickets to all Nashville Sounds games are available online at www.nashvillesounds.com or by calling 615-242-4371.
