Thrower Transferred from Harrisburg

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that infielder Jake Thrower has been transferred from Double-A Harrisburg and outfielder Jeremy Ware has been transferred to Harrisburg. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 22 players; 10 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and four outfielders, plus one player (right-handed pitcher Troy Mattes) on the disabled list.

Thrower, 27, began the season with Triple-A Portland, where he batted .277 (23-for-83) with one home run, 13 RBI and one stolen base in 28 games. He was acquired by the Expos on May 22 and assigned to Harrisburg, where he batted .283 (15-for-53) with five RBI and three stolen bases in 15 games with the Senators. Thrower spent the entire 2002 season with Portland. He batted .271 (98-for-362) with four home runs, 33 RBI and one stolen base in 111 games for the Beavers last season. Thrower tied for the team lead and set a career-high with 31 doubles. The native of Yuma, Arizona was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the San Diego Padres on June 10, 1997. He spent his entire career with the Padres' organization before this year, reaching Triple-A in 1999 with Las Vegas. The 2002 season marked his first full campaign at the Triple-A level. Thrower entered this season with a career .276 batting average (504-for-1825) with 25 home runs, 211 RBI and 41 stolen bases in 510 games.

Ware, 27, batted .300 (6-for-20) with one home run and one RBI in 12 games with the Trappers this season. He was transferred to the club on May 21 from Harrisburg, where he batted .257 (27-for-105) with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 26 games. Ware, a native of Orangeville, Ontario and the 10th Canadian to don a Trapper uniform, was originally drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 25th round of the 1994 draft and spent the first seven years of his career in the Expos minor league system, reaching as high as Triple-A Ottawa in 2001. He batted .265 (39-for-147) with two home runs and 13 RBI in 53 games with the Lynx that season. Ware signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Indians before the 2002 season and hit .296 (40-for-135) with one home run and 17 RBI in 42 games with Triple-A Buffalo before being traded to the Expos on August 8 for right-handed pitcher Shane Arthurs. He spent the remainder of the season with Harrisburg, where he batted .263 (25-for-95) with six home runs and 18 RBI in 24 games. Ware, who now resides in Guelph, Ontario, entered the season with a career .264 batting average (682-for-2587), 61 home runs and 373 RBI in 737 games.
