Metairie, LA -- Ryan Vogelsong allowed one run in seven innings to pitch Nashville to a 4-1 victory over New Orleans Tuesday night at Zephyr Field.
Vogelsong (7-5) allowed four hits while string out six and walked none. After allowing a run and two hits in the first inning, Vogelsong allowed just two base-runners over the next six innings.
Vogelsong and Sound relievers Jim Mann and Mark Corey combined to retire the last 15 Zephyr hitters. Corey threw a perfect ninth to record his Pacific Coast League leading 18th save.
The Sounds (34-29) move to 1.5 games behind the PCL East Division leading Zephyrs (36-28).
Rodrigo Rosario (5-7) allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings to take the loss. Rosario has lost his last three starts since being named PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 19th-May 25th.
After New Orleans scored in the first on a single by Dave Matranga and double by Raul Chavez, Nashville scored a run in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
The Sounds tied the game in the fifth. Aaron Holbert led off with a single and went to third when Brad King followed with a single. After Vogelsong bunted King to second, Tike Redman sent a line drive past first base to score Holbert.
The Sounds then took the lead on Carlos Rivera's ninth homerun of the year to lead off the sixth.
Redman and Holbert each had two hits for the Sounds, who out hit the Zephyrs 8-4.
The series with the Sounds continues on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.. Tomorrow night is Western Wednesday featuring professional roper Kevin Fitzpatrick. Ron Villone (3-2, 2.45) will pitch for the Zephyrs against Nelson Figueroa (6-3, 3.47).
