Nashville Sounds News Release

The Nashville Sounds fell to the Omaha Royals by a 7-4 count in front of 8,464 fans on Thursday evening in the finale of a four-game series. With the win, Omaha took three of the four contests.

With the defeat, Nashville (33-33) dropped back to .500 and lost consecutive games for the first time in three weeks.

Former Sound Mendy Lopez opened the evening's scoring in the top of the second when he belted his sixth home run of the year, a one-out solo shot off Nashville starter Frank Brooks, to give Omaha a 1-0 lead. Nashville first baseman Andy Abad tied the contest in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double to plate J.R. House.

Omaha took a 5-1 lead in the top of the fourth with a four-run rally against Brooks. PCL home run leader Calvin Pickering led off the frame with a solo longball to left, his 25th home run of the year. Lopez followed with a walk and moved to second on a Rick Short single. After both runners moved up on a groundout, Alexis Gomez plated them with a single to left. Alberto Castillo scored the inning's final run on a groundout to increase the lead to four.

The Sounds got one run back in the bottom of the fifth when Shaun Skrehot and Keith McDonald ripped back-to-back one-out doubles. Nashville missed a chance to do further damage in the frame when ex-Sound Shawn Camp fanned potential tying run J.J. Davis with runners on second and third to end the inning.

Another former Sound contributed for Omaha in the seventh when outfielder Adrian Brown hit a sac fly to plate David DeJesus, who had tripled off reliever Jim Mann, to increase the lead to 6-2. Nashville got the run right back in the bottom of the inning when Skrehot scored on a Thompson grounder to make it a 6-3 game.

Short – who led Omaha with a 3-for-4 effort on the evening –belted a one-out solo homer off Mann in the top of the eighth, his sixth roundtripper of the year. Skrehot, who continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-4 effort and missed the cycle by a triple, finished the night's scoring with a leadoff solo homer in the bottom of the ninth, his fourth.

Tony Alvarez turned in a solid night at the plate for Nashville, reaching base in all five plate appearances with a pair of singles and three walks.

Camp (1-0) picked up the victory after allowing one run in 2 2/3 innings in relief of White, while Brooks (3-3) was hit with the loss after surrendering five runs in his six innings of work.

The Sounds continue their homestand by welcoming the Albuquerque Isotopes to town tomorrow evening for a four-game, three-day series that includes a scheduled doubleheader on Saturday. It will be the teams' fourth and final series of the season; Albuquerque currently leads the season series, 7-5.

Friday's 7 p.m. series opener will be "Turn Back The Clock Night"; both teams will wear uniforms based on those worn by their respective city's clubs in the 1880s. Nashville right-hander Nelson Figueroa (6-4, 4.40) will make the start and face Albuquerque right-hander Mike Nannini (3-5, 6.49).
