Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC (7-4-2, 23 points) plays its third match in eight days with a trip north of the border to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC (3-4-5, 14 points) tonight at BC place. Seattle currently sits in first place in the Western Conference with 23 points through 13 matches, one point above LAFC, while Vancouver ranks ninth with 14 points through 12 matches.
Sounders FC announced that it has signed midfielder Paul Rothrock to a short-term agreement ahead of Saturday's match. A club may sign a player, age 25 or younger during the league season, from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro) to a maximum of four short-term agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (maximum of 16 days). An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four short-term agreements.
The contest also marks Seattle's second fixture in the 2023 Cascadia Cup, a regional competition between Seattle, Vancouver and Portland. Portland currently leads the competition with six points through three matches, with Seattle in third place with zero points through one match.
Following Saturday's match, the Rave Green return home to face the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, May 27 on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia, El Rey 1360 AM).
