Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Following a 0-0 draw with Real Salt Lake last weekend at America First Field, Seattle Sounders FC (6-2-2, 20 points) takes on Sporting Kansas City (0-7-3, 3 points) this afternoon on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (1:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV - Watch Free, FOX, 950 KJR FM, Sirius XM FC, El Rey 1360 AM).
Sounders FC announced that it has signed Tacoma Defiance defender Cody Baker to a short-term agreement ahead of Sunday's match, making him eligible for selection by Head Coach Brian Schmetzer. MLS clubs may sign players from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate to short-term agreements for a maximum of two MLS regular season matches per season.
SKC and Seattle have already met once this year on March 25, with the Rave Green winning 4-1 at Children's Mercy Park. The match featured four goals from Jordan Morris and four assists from Léo Chú, both single-match club records.
Seattle has a slight edge at 12-10-4 in the regular-season series between the two sides, holding a 6-5-2 record both at home and on the road against SKC. Seattle also earned a 1-0 home win in the 2016 Western Conference Knockout Round, while Sporting Kansas City defeated the Rave Green via penalties in the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final.
Following the matchup against SKC, Seattle travels to face LA Galaxy in the Fourth Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 10 at Dignity Health Sports Park (7:30 p.m. PT / Golazo Sports Network). The Rave Green then head to Texas for a matchup against Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday, May 13 at Shell Energy Stadium (5:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia, El Rey 1360 AM).
