
Sounders FC Hosts Portland Timbers Sunday Evening in Cascadia Clash

SEATTLE, WASH. - After becoming the first team in MLS history to win three road games in a span of seven days, capped with a with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory at Columbus, Sounders FC (12-3-6, 42 points) returns to the Emerald City for a matchup with archrival Portland Timbers (7-10-3, 24 points). This marks the third meeting of the season between the two sides, and second within two weeks.
The two squads most recently met on August 15 at Providence Park, with the Rave Green dismantling Portland by a score of 6-2, including braces by forwards Fredy Montero and Golden Boot leader Raúl RuidiÃÂaz. For Seattle, it was the most away strikes the team had scored since 2012. Brian Schmetzer's side also earned a 2-1 win on May 9 in Portland.
Sounders FC is 14-10-7 against the Timbers in MLS regular-season play, including a 7-3-4 record in Seattle. However, the rivalry dates back to 1975 when both teams were in the North American Soccer League (NASL). Seattle holds a 56-42-15 record against Portland across all competitions.
The match serves as the finale of a special doubleheader day of soccer in Seattle that sees NWSL sides OL Reign and Portland Thorns play the first of the two matches at 4:00 p.m. PT. The teams are also celebrating the life and legacy of Jimi Hendrix, with musical performances and special events scattered throughout the stadium before, in between and after the matches.
Following the Cascadia clash, Sounders FC takes on Minnesota United at Lumen Field on Saturday, September 11 (2:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, Prime Video, Univision-Seattle, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
