Tacoma Defiance News Release

PORTLAND, ORE. - Forward Myron Samuel and midfielder John Magnus provided the scoring in the first half, as Sounders FC 2 (3-7-4, 13 points) held off Portland Timbers 2 (5-7-2, 17 points) for its second consecutive victory. The result gives S2 its first road win of the 2016 USL campaign. Next up, S2 squares off against Swope Park Rangers at Starfire Stadium on Sunday, June 26 (5:00 p.m. PT / Live-streamed on SoundersFC.com).

Samuel began the scoring in the 35th minute with his first goal of the season. Samuel, who returned to USL action after competing with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines national team for Caribbean Cup Qualifiers last week, finished off a lofted back-post cross from Magnus from close range. In the 43rd minute, Magnus, a Sounders FC Academy player, opened his USL scoring account after his shot attempt deflected into the bottom right corner of the net.

In the second half, Portland earned one back off the foot of Blake Bodily. The forward placed the ball above goalkeeper Charlie Lyon to slice the lead in half. S2 held the 2-1 lead, though, to earn its second consecutive win against a Cascadia rival. On June 9, S2 beat Whitecaps FC 3-2. S2 takes on Swope Park Rangers at Starfire Stadium on Sunday, June 26 (5:00 p.m. PT / Live-streamed on SoundersFC.com) at Providence Park.
