Sound Highlights "Large" 13th Man
January 23, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release
Strong Island, NY. This weekend, Ed "Cookie" Jarvis suited up as the Strong Island Sounds "13th Man Celebrity Player" in a game with the Newark Express. Jarvis is a well-known competitive eater with many IFOCE championships under his belt (literally). He is also a resident of Long Island and a fan of the ABA's Strong Island Sound professional basketball team. According to Joe Pietaro, "We have had quite a few players in the league over 7 feet, we think that Cookie is the first one over 400 pounds...and he can play." To view his appearance, visit: http://www.sheykanbayke.com/sis/Cookie_512k.wmv. "Of course, we had to get an extra supply of hot dogs for the game so that we would have enough for the fans too. Great fun, a great rule - and we hope he comes back." For more information, email jpietaro@strongislandsound.com or visit www.strongislandsound.com or www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
