RazorSharks return home after seventh straight win

(Rochester, N.Y.) The Rochester RazorSharks of the American Basketball Association won their seventh consecutive game after defeating the Montreal Matrix 90-89 last Friday night to remain in first place in the Connie Hawkins Division with a 16-3 record. Rochester returns home to The Blue Cross Arena this Thursday, January 26 to host their Thruway rival, the Buffalo Rapids, at 7:05 p.m.

Friday night's win in Montreal marked Rochester's 12th win in their last 13 games in the regular season. Guard Keith Friel (Virginia) led the RazorSharks with 19 points, while Brian Edwards (Miami Ohio) scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. The victory snapped Montreal's four-game winning streak and dropped the Matrix to 8-10.

NEXT HOME GAME: Thursday night, January 26, the RazorSharks return home for a match-up with the Buffalo Rapids at 7:05 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena. The Rapids, led by guard s Tim Winn (St. Bonaventure) and Modie Cox (U. of Buffalo) are 8-10 on the season and winless against Rochester in four previous meetings. The game will be broadcast live on WHTK AM-1280, with Gene Battaglia and Roosevelt Bouie handling the calls. After the game, there will be a "Meet the Players" party at The Keg, located at 315 Gregory Street.

GAME CHANGE: The RazorSharks were scheduled to be on the road Tuesday night to take on the Boston Frenzy, but that game has been postponed due to facility scheduling adjustments in Boston by the new ownership group. The game will be rescheduled at a later date.

TEAM NOTES: The RazorSharks are 9-2 on home court at the Blue Cross Arena and an amazing 7-1 on the road. Forward James Reaves remains sidelined with a foot stress fracture. Rochester's next road game is this Saturday, January 28 in Baltimore against the Pearls at 7:00 p.m.

ABA NEWS: The ABA has begun selecting players for the upcoming All-Star game on February 11th at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. Four players have been selected so far including, former NBA star, Tim Hardaway, who currently plays and coaches for the Florida Pit Bulls. Two All-stars will continue to be named daily, until the rosters are filled. RazorSharks Head Coach Rod Baker was recently named assistant coach for the East All-Stars.
