Kalamazoo Wings News Release
BRAMPTON, ON- Kyle Bushee had three points and Tanner Sorenson provided clutch scoring to increase the Kalamazoo Wings' winning streak to three, as the Wings earned a 3-2 overtime victory over the Brampton Beast at the Powerade Centre on Sunday.
Storming out of the gates in the first period, the Beast peppered Wings goalie Joel Martin in the early going. Martin answered the test of each try, until Chris Leveille carried along the right-wing side and snapped a shot that went into the top corner of the goal and bounced straight out. The play went under review by the officials, but was eventually upheld and Brampton earned the game's first lead and the only tally of the first period.
Ten minutes into the second period and fresh off killing a penalty for tripping, Kalamazoo created a counter-attack with Bushee joining the rush after being freed from the penalty box. Bushee hauled in a pass from Lane Scheidl and steered the puck towards Fucale, who made the initial save. Bushee followed the rebound below the goal line and banked the puck off the back side of the Brampton netminder and into the net for the game-tying marker.
After earning their third power play try of the game in the opening minute of the third period, Kalamazoo took their first lead of the game in the ensuing seconds. After winning a faceoff in the offensive end, Bushee steered the puck in front of the goal for Scott Henegar, whose close-quarter stick handling opened up room to deposit the puck into the goal for a 2-1 lead.
With time winding down and Fucale on the bench for an extra attacker, Brampton fired countless chances towards Martin, who made a series of saves with the clock chewing away. With 32 seconds left, David Pacan found the unmarked puck through traffic and snuck it into the goal. The extra-attacker tally sent the game into overtime tied at two.
1:26 into overtime, Kalamazoo generated pressure and Bushee set up Tanner Sorenson near the side of the goal. Sorenson received the pass, tip-toed the line towards the net, and tucked it between the legs of Fucale for the game winner.
