DUBUQUE, Iowa - For the second straight game, the Fighting Saints took more than the sixty minutes of regulation to get the job done, but they captured two standings points. Shane Sooth was the hero in the 3-2 win over the Omaha Lancers, as he finished with a goal (on a penalty shot), an assist, and a shootout goal.

The Fighting Saints were able to capitalize on one of three powerplay chances in the first period. Jono Davis, acquired earlier this week from Cedar Rapids, scored his second goal of the season, redirecting a backdoor feed from Tyler Lundey. Shane Sooth recorded the second assist on the goal. With less than two minutes to go in the period, the Lancers' Nolan Zajac worked a puck to the net, and Kenny Gillespie cleaned up the rebound to tie the game at one.

The only scoring in the second period came on a Shane Sooth penalty shot. When Sooth was held up while trying to redirect a Jono Davis feed, he was awarded an opportunity to score on Alex Lyon. Sooth made his signature move, driving wide into the right circle and snapping a shot past Lyon. The goal put the Fighting Saints ahead 2-1 as the game headed to the third period.

Late in the third, Matt Gaudreau, brother of former Fighting Saints forward John Gaudreau, one timed a shot home from the slot to tie the game and send it into overtime. When neither team scored in the extra frame, the two teams headed to a shootout.

Neither shooter scored in the first round, and Tanner Lane and Jono Davis traded goals in the second round, with Davis sliding the puck home through the five hole. Jimmy Murray's miss in the third round gave the Fighting Saints an opportunity to win the game on a goal. Sooth capitalized, scoring in much the same way that he did on the penalty shot in the second period.

The Fighting Saints will wrap up the holiday weekend, and a stretch of three games in four days, with a trip to Des Moines tomorrow night. They will follow this week's slate of games up with a series with Cedar Rapids next weekend, playing on the road on Friday, and at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Saturday night.
