Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Angelo Songco homered twice and Logan Bawcom shined in his Quakes' debut, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes held on for a 5-4 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Thursday night at The Epicenter.

Songco enjoyed his second multi-homer game of the year, while Bawcom struck out four men in earning his first save in a Quakes' uniform.

With the Quakes up 5-1 in the eighth, reliever Daniel Carela got into some trouble, loading the bases with one out. Bawcom, just called up from Great Lakes of the Midwest League earlier in the day, came on and struck out Reymond Fuentes for the second out. It looked as if Bawcom would leave the bases loaded, but a ground ball off the bat of Jeudy Valdez was misplayed, allowing a pair of runs to score, making it 5-3. With runners at first and third, Valdez stole second base. The throw down from catcher J.T. Wise sailed into center field, bringing home another run to make it 5-4, while putting Valdez at third base. Bawcom recovered though, getting pinch-hitter Dan Meeley to fly out to right field to end the eighth.

The ninth inning was much less dramatic, as Bawcom fanned all three men he faced, earning his 15th save of the year and first with the Quakes.

Songco helped back a solid outing from Quakes' starter Andres Santiago, blasting a two-run homer in the first for a 2-0 lead. After Anthony Jackson's sac fly plated Nick Buss in the third, Jake Lemmerman singled and rode home on Songco's second homer of the game off of Storm starter Jerry Sullivan (5-6), making it 5-0.

Songco now leads the team with 16 home runs and 74 RBIs.

Santiago struggled with his command, walking a season-high five batters. It mattered little though, as none of them came around to score, as Santiago took a shut-out into the seventh inning. Nate Freiman's solo homer ended Santiago's night two outs into the seventh, putting the Storm on the board at 5-1.

Santiago (6-2) allowed just the one run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings, winning his fifth straight decision, helping give the Quakes their second straight win overall in the series.

The Quakes (12-9, 50-41) and Storm will play again tomorrow night, this time from the Diamond in Lake Elsinore, before Rancho comes back to The Epicenter on Saturday for a three-game home stand against Modesto. Matt Magill (8-2) takes on Lake Elsinore's Andrew Werner (2-0) at 7:05pm on Friday night.

Saturday night's game against Modesto will feature post-game Fireworks, thanks to KOLA 99.9 FM. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...GO Quakes!
