York Revolution News Release

Bridgewater, NJ- The York Revolution could not slow down the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday night, suffering a 13-2 loss in front of 4,004 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revs will look to end a season-high-tying four-game slide in the series finale on Thursday evening.

The Revs scored the game's first run as Andres Perez led off the second with a double to right-center, the 198th extra-base hit of his Revs career. He would score with one out as Bryan Pounds drove a ball to deep right-center that was dropped by right fielder Gevon Jackson, Jr. in front of the fence for an error and a 1-0 York lead.

Carlos Guzman lined a solo homer to right in the bottom of the second to tie the score, and the Patriots then seized control an inning later.

York missed a golden opportunity to go back in front in the top of the third as Brian Erie led off with a double off the third base bag for his first Revolution hit, and Travis Witherspoon walked to put two men aboard. Patriots lefty Nik Turley struck out the next three batters, however, igniting a stretch on which he set down 12 of his final 13. Turley (3-0) allowed just an unearned run and three hits over six strong innings, striking out 10 and walking one.

The Patriots swung both momentum and score in their favor, scoring three times with two outs in their half of the third. David Vidal kept the inning alive with a single to left and stole second, before scoring on an infield single by Bryan LaHair. Kyle Roller then connected on a two-run homer to right, giving the Patriots a 4-1 lead.

Guzman lined his second home run of the game to right field on the first pitch of the fourth for a 5-1 lead, and a LaHair groundout would plate one more in the fifth inning as the margin became 6-1.

Somerset wasn't finished, adding two more in the seventh inning on a wild pitch and a Brian Van Kirk RBI single.

Left fielder Michael Rockett entered to pitch in the bottom of the eighth, making the third mound appearance of his career. Somerset scored five times with two outs, taking advantage of three bases loaded walks and a hit by pitch before Jackson singled home the final run. Rockett retired Vinny Zarrillo twice in the inning for the first and third outs, and also set down the league's home run leader, Vidal, on a deep fly out to center.

The Revs scored the game's final run in the ninth on a sac fly lined to center by Pounds, plating Perez who had reached on an error and advanced on a Rockett double to right.

Revs righty James Simmons (9-6) suffered the loss, charged with six runs in six innings. He retired six of his final seven, and worked six innings for the 17th time in 21 starts.

Notes: Rockett's mound appearance marks the 16th time the Revs have used a position player to pitch, and first since Chris Nowak did it on June 2, 2012 at Long Island. Somerset has won seven of its last eight overall. The Revs have won five of seven meetings at home against the Patriots, but have now lost eight of the nine on the road. York's four-game skid is its second of the season and first since April 26-28. York righty Ty'Relle Harris (3-4, 4.99) gets the ball on Thursday against Somerset right-hander Donovan Hand (4-4, 5.11) at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
