Cape Breton Eagles News Release
SYDNEY - Cape Breton Eagles forward Egor Sokolov has been chosen to represent Team Russia in the 2019 CIBC Canada-Russia Series.
Every year, each of the three CHL leagues forms a team of players eligible for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship, and each team plays two games against a team of Russian selects. The bulk of the Russian roster will play in all six games against the CHL, but the Russian team is also permitted to add Russian CHL players to play in the two games against that player's league. Sokolov is one of four QMJHL Russian players participating in the series.
Sokolov will represent Russia on November 4th in Saint John and November 5th in Moncton. He could be playing against Cape Breton teammate Mathias Laferrière, who was named to Team QMJHL, but is currently recovering from an upper body injury.
This season Sokolov has 25 points in 13 games, placing him fourth in QMJHL scoring heading into Wednesday night's action. Selected with the 35th overall pick in the 2017 CHL Import draft, Sokolov is in his third year with the Eagles. He also attended Columbus Blue Jackets training camp the past two seasons.
Sokolov and his Eagles teammates are next in action when they host the Victoriaville Tigres on Thursday night at Centre 200. Game time is 7 PM.
