SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego Sockers announce the addition of defender Larry Inlow and forward Ato Leone for the remainder of the 2004 MISL season.
"Both Larry and Ato provide us with players that will help us compete internally for starting positions on the team," said Head Coach Brian Quinn.
Inlow, a native of Wichita, Kansas, came to the Sockers as a free agent. His most recent indoor experience was with the Wichita Wings where he played for five years. Prior to that he was part of the Florida Thundercats and Mississippi Beachkings. Inlow attended Newman University majoring in biology and was honored as an All-American, All-Region and a three-time All-Conference player.
Joining Inlow for the final stretch of the Sockers season, Leone is a key addition to the club. Since Mark Ughy was injured on January 2, the Sockers have gone 3-9 and have missed the presence of the big forward. Leone will add firepower to the offense, and hopefully help the Sockers in their hunt for a playoff spot.
The Argentine native was waived by the Cleveland Force at the end of February and was picked up by the Sockers just after the All-Star break. Leone was traded to the Force from the St. Louis Steamers. In 2002-03 he was an All-Star with the Harrisburg Heat and in 2001 was the WISL's MVP with the Sacramento Knights.
The two could see their first action this weekend in back-to-back road games against Baltimore and Philadelphia. Saturday's game against Baltimore kicks off at 4:30 p.m. (PST) and Sunday's game against the KiXX is slated for 10:00 a.m.(PST).
