San Diego Sockers News Release
MVPs POWER WEEKEND SWEEP IN TACOMA
When you are trying to win back-to-back games on the road, it never hurts to have a couple MVPs on your side. Behind outstanding performances from former PASL MVP performers Kraig Chiles and Brian Farber, the Sockers swept a pair of games from the Tacoma Stars at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington. In Saturday's 13-6 victory Brian Farber had a season-high five goals with an assist. In Sunday's 10-6 win it was reigning MVP and league scoring leader Kraig Chiles taking over with four goals and an assist.
SOCKERS ADVANCE IN US OPEN
Saturday night's game in Tacoma counted both as a PASL regular season game and a US Open Western semi-final. Thanks to the Sockers 13-6 win, San Diego advances to the final of the Western bracket, where they will face the Turlock Express on Saturday night at the Del Mar Arena. The winner will face a representative from the Eastern conference, likely Detroit or Cincinnati, in an as-yet scheduled final in February.
SAN DIEGO STREAK UPDATES
The Sockers maintained a number of league-record streaks during their weekend in the Pacific Northwest. The Sockers have won 23 consecutive matches overall and 17 straight in PASL regular season contests. The two wins also marked the Sockers 10th and 11th straight victories on the road.
SUSI 500: THREE FROM MILESTONE
Sockers captain Aaron Susi is on the verge of a career milestone: 500 career points in his 15-year indoor soccer career. With a goal and three assists over the weekend Susi increased his career point total to 497.
LUNA RISING IN THE WEST
Veteran midfielder Chiky Luna has taken over Paul Wright's former role as the "master of the free kick", potting home his third set piece goal of the season on Saturday. The former Vista High star had his best weekend of the season with four goals and two assists.
